Bainbridge Island, WA – For the first time ever, Charles Durrett, cohousing expert and Principal Architect of McCamant & Durrett Architects, and Quimper Village Senior Cohousing are joining forces to host the Senior Cohousing Weekend Intensive on June 15, 16, and 17 in Bainbridge, WA. Set on the scenic Bainbridge Island, the weekend intensive will be a fruitful and inspiring weekend of learning from others who have successfully created their own senior cohousing community and the architect that helped them design the cohousing community of their dreams. From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, attendees will gain tools and resources that are invaluable to anyone starting their own cohousing community.
On Saturday, participants will take a tour Quimper Village Senior cohousing and meet the residents who made it happen. Quimper Village is one of the newest senior cohousing communities in the U.S., located in Port Townsend, WA. Residents moved in in late 2017 and are already having the time of their lives surrounded by people they know and care about. Quimper Village’s story is a great example of how a group of proactive people can positively impact their aging scenario.
The Senior Cohousing Weekend Intensive is open to the public but is limited to 20 people who are ready to move forward with their senior cohousing projects. Participants will hear from Quimper Village residents on “what we did, how we did it, and lessons we learned.” As opposed to a larger conference, participants will be in a small group setting for the entire weekend and will get personalized, professional advice for how to start a senior cohousing community in their town. Discussions will include valuable lessons on how to make sure they’re cohousing project is built on time and within budget.
