06/23/2017: United Way – Day of Caring

If you are looking for a way to volunteer in our community, participation in the United Way Day of Caring is a great way to do it.  Our project opportunity is serving at the Bremerton Foodline:

  • Sorting food from the Postal Food Drive
  • Tending to their vegetable gardens
  • Stocking shelves
  • Helping clients select their food choices
  • Creating kids summer food bags
  • Creating senior food bags
  • Bagging dog and cat food.

Participation includes a boxed lunch, a United Way Day of Caring tee shirt, a KUUF Volunteer button, and a chance to give back to our community.  Let Ellen Newberg know your name and tee shirt size if you want to sign up! or (360) 692-3981.

06/23/2017: Liberal Faith at Work

Friday, 9:30am, Bremerton Food Line

On Friday, June 23, twelve volunteers participated on the United Way Day of Caring KUUF Team by reporting for duty at the Bremerton Foodline from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Thanks to Dr. Gail Davis, we proudly wore our “KUUF:  Liberal Faith At Work” buttons.  Nearly 300 sacks of food were bagged for distribution to children.  Grocery bags were doubled up and filled with mayonnaise, milk, juice, canned meals, tuna, peanut butter, jelly/jam, crackers, cereal, Raman, snacks, granola bars, and canned fruit.  The Foodline staff was quite impressed with how much we accomplished.  Another crew repackaged diapers.  Volunteers included:  Jane Chapin, Lynn Lund, Carolee Effron, Ginny and Rick Soth, Gail and Phil Davis, Bonnie and Gary Sykes, Leah and Kelly Vance, Janice Miller (who reported to the Fairgrounds at 7:30 a.m. to register us and pick up our box lunches), and Ellen Newberg, Coordinator.  Thanks, too, to Amy’s Decadent Chocolates for donating caramel apples for the volunteers’ enjoyment.
