This Sunday we explore what it means to be “woke,” and why--and how!--you should try to become woker than you already are.
This week, we are focusing on the power of paying attention to our impact on others. To do that, we will let World Compliment Day guide us. Compliments have the power to brighten people’s day, which is a great reminder of how our attitudes, choices, and mood can shape the attitudes, choices, and moods of others. We will be exploring the importance of being intentional about how we are in the world.

In beloved community, we will sometimes impact one another in ways that don’t feel good. We’ve all been there! The good news is that we can practice and learn ways to repair harm that care for everyone—without punishing mistakes and without avoiding the hard work these moments invite.
The KUUF Grief Support Group meets the first Sunday of the month. The next meeting will be this Sunday, March 1 at 11:45 am in the Elmore Room.
You are invited to join us in our next monthly meditation mini retreat. On the first Saturday of every month from 11:50 am to 2:20 pm we will practice a variety of meditation styles: guided and silent, sitting and walking, and Loving Kindness (metta). The program will be divided into 20 minute meditations, with 5 minute breaks in between. You are welcome to join for all or part of the afternoon.
Save the Date: Our annual KUUF Stewardship Campaign will be during the month of February. We'll invite members and friends to pledge their financial, time, and talent commitment to KUUF for the coming fiscal year (May 2026 - April 2027).
In her poem “Sometimes” Mary Oliver offers her suggestions for living a life: “Pay attention./ Be astonished./ Tell about it.” By paying attention we are reminded to notice the beauty and wonder that surround us, as well as the things that are amiss. When we talk about those things, asking not only “Why?” but “How can I be part of making a difference?” change begins to happen. On this International Women’s Day, we commemorate women’s work for equality and liberation that began when some women paid attention to how they were sidelined in their societies, told others, and spurred an international movement toward equality.
This week, we are focusing on the power of paying attention to inequality. To do that, we will let International Women’s Day guide us. Women have a history of calling us to pay attention to women’s rights and inequalities of all kinds.
You are invited to hear Stephen Berlinguette speak on March 8 after the service. Stephen Berlinguette is a career international development specialist who has spent over 20 years managing economic and social development portfolios in some of the world’s most complex environments. From 2010 to 2025, he served as a United States Foreign Service Officer with the USAID, overseeing American foreign assistance programs to deliver poverty reduction, stabilization, education, health, and community development impacts overseas.

Patti Lee Hart, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and KUUF member, passed away on October 1, 2025 after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
This week, we are focusing on the power of paying attention to the present moment. As we do that, we will have the chance to explore some of the ways we can recenter ourselves in a world full of distractions that can knock us off balance.

Next month is Earth Day, which invites us to look at many of the issues around the climate crisis, but World Water Day gives us the gift of focusing on this one aspect of nature and the earth.

Join us tonight, February 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at KUUF for a potluck gathering where anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ can socialize and connect with others in the community.
This is an all ages movie night. Pack a picnic dinner, blanket and pillows and join members of the Soulful Home parenting group for an indoor picnic, pajama wearing, film viewing event. This is an all ages event and because of this we will be starting early. You are invited to socialize and eat from 5:30 to 6:00. At 6:00 movie will begin

This sermon will explore the relationship between resilience, optimism, and hope, and how we navigate these hard times through the collective work that holds us in community.
Save the Date: At our last Congregational Meeting, the KUUF Board of Trustees committed to the congregation that we would commence a long-needed strategic planning process for KUUF. That begins next month, when the Strategic Planning Committee will conduct a congregation-wide Visioning Retreat on Saturday, February 21 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, led by Rev. Carol McKinley.

This week, we are exploring how we find resilience through community. As we do that, we will have the chance to lift up and learn about Ramadan.
No one would doubt we are living in difficult times. How can we can we keep going in the midst of hardship? Kate Rae Davis, director of the Resilient Leaders Project, a program of The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, says resilience is the key. Resilience is not about avoiding the hard stuff. It’s about how you deal with it by focusing on purpose, people, and practices in your life.
In February we will be hosting two meetings on Sunday, February 15. One will be before the worship service and start at 9:15 am. The other will be after the worship service and start at 11:45 am. Both meetings will have the same agenda so you can pick the one which is most convenient for you.

The Labyrinth Task Force will hold its initial organizational meeting this Sunday, January 25 in the Elmore Room from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Ideas and planning for an eventual permanent labyrinth installed somewhere on campus will be discussed.
