The Truth Quest Book Group meets again via Zoom on Sunday, April 6th, 8:30am-9:30am; we will be sharing about the book "Cherished Belonging: The Healing Power of Love in Divided Times” by the Jesuit Priest, Gregory Boyle; Father Boyle writes of his labor of love at Homeboy Industries, which is said to be the World's largest gang intervention and rehabilitation program. All are welcome, whether or not you have read the entire book. Email admin@kuuf.org for the link.
The KUUF Grief Support Group now meets the first Sunday of the month. The next meeting will be Sunday, April 6 at 11:45 am in the Admin Conference Room (building across the breezeway from the Sanctuary.)
In this session the group will look at how joy can be found in music. They will be taking inspiration from the well-loved and widely-used saying, “Make a joyful noise!” They will most certainly be literally making a bunch of joyful noises.
Soulful Home is an ongoing parent group meeting that usually meets the third Sunday of each month following the service. However, because the third Sunday of April is Easter, Soulful Home has been moved to April 13th. Parents are invited to bring a sack lunch for themselves and for their child(ren). Children will remain up in the Matan Building for childcare while parents meet to build community and explore the Soulful Home resources. Soulful Home is a program through Soul Matters that supports families as they explore the sacred in everyday spaces by providing materials to help parents integrate Unitarian Universalism into everyday home life.
In this session the group will be exploring how joy is found in “foolishness.” Think fun, silliness, jokes, and the good-hearted frivolity that makes one happy to be alive. They will be taking inspiration from the well-loved and widely-used saying, “For the fun of it!” Even though it will have passed, the session will also give them a chance to celebrate and have fun with April Fool’s Day.
This morning is a multi-generational service. Children of all ages will remain in the sanctuary with their parents as we all worship together.
In this session the group will explore how joy can be found in nature, with a special nod to Earth Day. Often the focus on Earth Day, is what actions can be taken to save the Earth. In this session, the group will explore the other side of the coin, focusing on how Earth can save us with its deep and simple joys. They will be taking inspiration for the well-loved and widely used sayings, “Stop and smell the roses!” and “Nature is the best medicine.”
Good cooks of KUUF, our next potluck is Sunday, March 30, when Chalice Circle #7 will be our hosts. (Correction to last week’s Candle: CC#7, not CC#8, will host.) Thank you, CC #7 for stepping up to host our monthly community meal, when we break bread together in fellowship.
In this session, the group will look at trusting our inherent worth and how part of that is also about helping others trust their inherent worth. This will lead into how they can support those voices in their heads that say, “I deserve to be treated with respect.” With this as their focus, they have the wonderful opportunity to honor Transgender Day of Visibility with a Faith in Action project.
Spring is almost here, and Nancy Jo's Garden needs your input! Please join us for a planning meeting at KUUF on Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 am in the Elmore Room.
Please join us on Friday, March 28th at 5:30pm for the next Family Friendly Film at KUUF! Pack a dinner, blanket, and pillows and be prepared to have a fabulous evening!
Ever had life all planned out, only for the Universe (or God, or fate, or whatever you call it) to throw in a surprise twist? Sometimes you're heading in one direction, and suddenly—boom!—you're on a whole new path. Come ready to laugh, reflect, and maybe even embrace the holy plot twists in your own journey!
In this session the group will look at what it takes to fix broken trust. In addition to discussing the skills of making a sincere apology and forgiveness, they will also get into feelings and explore how it feels when people lie or don’t keep things private.
The architect, philosopher and futurist R. Buckminster Fuller wrote, “We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.” In our changing world that call has become increasingly urgent: how can we rebuild trust in ourselves and in our communities in order to create the future we hope to see?

How do you live the practice of loving compassion and stop harm in this time? Large UU events, like summer camps and General Assembly, all have care teams as part of their organization. This is one of our strategies for tending relationships, holding tension, and transforming conflict. At KUUF, Compassionate Communication Team members support Beloved Community by mediating and listening to members’ experiences, and helping people learn how to be better listeners. Next Sunday, Rev. Victoria and Compassionate Communication Team members will host a listening practice and share reflections on building trust.
March 16: Trusting Life
In this session the group explores how they can each support those voices in their heads that say, “LIfe is good!” and develop the courage to take “leaps of faith.” The Hindu holiday of Holi happens in March, so they will look at its celebration of good over evil. St. Patrick’s Day is also in March, so they will use it as a chance to ask, “Is life just random and full of luck, or does it lean in the direction of goodness?”
Keep this event in mind for next year’s Auction and don’t miss out next time!
The next Second Friday Film Series at KUUF will stream the documentary Power. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the film begins at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary.
Please join the Adult Education Committee in welcoming Nate Daniel, the executive director of Great Peninsula Conservancy, to explain to us the array of different programs that GPC offers, and their recent accomplishments and acquisitions. We hope to see you for this important program after the service on Sunday, March 9 in the KUUF Sanctuary.
At a recent Unitarian Universalist service, the worship leader informed me, in no uncertain terms, “I don’t worship anything.” Ohhhhh, there’s a message in there somewhere! Next Sunday we explore the concept of worship and see whether there is anything in the known Universe that might inspire us to bend our knees or bow our head... or both!
March 9: Trusting Yourself
In this session, children will be looking at what it means to trust themselves and how they can support those voices in their heads that say, “I can do it” and “I can face hard things.” They will talk about self-confidence and how each person has unique special strengths (superpowers”) they can rely on.
The KUUF Grief Support Group now meets the first Sunday of the month. The next meeting will be Sunday, March 2 at 11:45 am in the Elmore Room.
March 2: Trusting Others
In this session, children will look at what it means to trust other people. They will talk about those voices in their heads that say “Have the courage to tell the truth” and “We can trust people to be good!” They will also learn what makes others trustworth and how to tell if they are trustworthy.
William Sloane Coffin asserts, “faith is not believing without proof but trusting without reservation.” How is such trust built? Part of building trust is being honest and authentic with each other. That means sharing who I am, who you are, and where each of us desires to be headed. When we do this, we can trust the process of discerning who we can be together: where we share a common vision. Because that’s what inspires our commitment, and moves us to give.
Our book group meets again on Sunday, March 2 from 8:30 to 9:30 am via Zoom, when we will be sharing about the book by the historian of religion, Elaine Pagels' Revelations: Visions, Prophecy, and Politics in the Book of Revelation. All are welcome. Email admin@kuuf.org for link

In this session, the group will look at the way religions get left out and treated as “untrue,” “immoral,” and even “evil.” The UU commitment to religious diversity and the UU belief that all religions contain truth will be a central part of the discussion. UUs are called to help people value the learnings and insights from all of the world’s religions and understand that there are many valid spiritual paths to travel.
What does the turtle know and why should we listen? Everyone has something to give and everyone gets something they need. With a spirit of cooperation, generosity, and respect, we can save each other's lives. We are stronger together. Let's talk about Mutual Aid, what it means, and what it can do for you.
Rev. Dr. Margaret Keip's family will hold a memorial service for her at the Unitarian Universalists of Grant Pass on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 pm. The service will also be live streamed on Zoom. Email admin@kuuf.org for the link.

As UUs, we are all in the care of each other in our congregation. Today, Pastoral Care Team members Tiffany Drake, Karen Leader Scott, and Rev. Victoria Poling will reflect on what brings us joy as givers of pastoral care and how all people at KUUF can offer some kind of pastoral care to one another. Nancy Southwell will reflect on a meaningful experience of asking for and receiving care from members of our congregation, and what that has meant.
