Dear KUUF Community,

Lately, KUUF has seen a welcome surge of new members and newcomers eager to try us out. Many newcomers tell us they are looking for community and for meaning in their lives beyond the day to day – which is what drew many to the congregation years ago. But what kind of community do we find here and how do we parse meaning out of our daily activities?

Beginning in May, Rev. Victoria, the Welcoming and Membership and Social Justice Committees, and the Compassionate Communication Team will present a four-part series of programs, called Starting Point, where we explore these questions.

Starting Point sees Unitarian Universalism as a way of journeying through the world rather than a set of beliefs to which one assents. The classic UU slogan, “deeds not creeds” makes us think about how and where we walk, whereas creeds focus on what thoughts we put into our heads.

Starting Point offers fresh ways of looking at our beloved faith for everyone, for the classes provide opportunities to experience UUism rather than just learning about UUism.

Session I, Sunday, May 4 after service – Your Journey focuses on our individual life journeys and how our beliefs have evolved. This is an expanded version of our existing New to KUUF Conversation, and Welcoming and Membership will facilitate this session. Drop-ins welcome!

Session II – Sunday, May 18 after service – The Unitarian Universalist Journey and The Journey of Our Church, will feature UU theology and history and the history of KUUF. Facilitated by Rev. Victoria.

Session III – Sunday, June 1 after service – Our Journey Together: The Three Paths of Unitarian Universalism, Part One, will focus on three UU spiritual practices: listening to one’s deepest self, opening to life’s gifts, and serving needs greater than our own. Facilitated by the Compassionate Communication Team.

Session IV – Sunday, June 22 after service – The Three Paths of Unitarian Universalism, Part Two and Finding Your Journey Group, facilitated by the Social Justice Committee and Compassionate Communication Team.
