Zelda Foxall presents Barbara Jordan

Zelda Foxall is a professional storyteller, specializing in telling the stories of
historically significant African American Women by doing in-character
vignettes. She has portrayed powerful women active in the civil rights
movement, including Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker; Wangari Maathai,
founder of the Green Belt Movement; Shirley Chisholm, the first African
American woman elected to the US Congress, and the first black candidate
for a major party’s nomination for US President, as well as several others
notable African American women.

Zelda meticulously researches her subjects and has performed in local and
national settings.

Introduction for Barbara Jordan
Barbara Charline Jordan was an American lawyer, educator, and politician.
A Democrat, she was the first African-American elected to the Texas
Senate after Reconstruction, the first Southern African-American woman
elected to the United States House of Representatives.
Barbara Jordan was the subject of national attention after delivering a
powerful opening statement at the House Judiciary Committee hearings
during the impeachment process for Richard Nixon. And in 1976, she
became the first African-American, and the first woman, to deliver a
keynote address at a Democratic National Convention. She received the
Presidential Medal of Freedom, among numerous other honors. She is
also known for her work as chair of the U.S. Commission on Immigration
Reform.
